*For clients paying at time of service, Happy Porcupine Acupuncture offers a sliding scale for return visits.  The sliding scale fee for one session of acupuncture ranges from $50 to $80.  The sliding scale cannot be used for the first visit.

Late cancellation policy: For visits cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice, a $50 late cancellation fee will be charged.  Please try to be on time for visits, since we may need up to an hour to adequately assess your condition and deliver treatment.  We may not be able accommodate clients who arrive more than 20 minutes after their scheduled appointment time, which would count as a late cancellation.

If you think your insurance may cover acupuncture, please notify us when making your appointment and bring your insurance information to the first session.

Who decides how much will be paid for a treatment?

The patient decides.

Why is there a sliding scale, instead of a set price?

Since many insurance companies don't cover acupuncture (yet), and patients need to receive repeated treatments in order for acupuncture to be effective, cost can be a major barrier to treatment for many patients.  We believe that acupuncture can be beneficial to many people, and want the treatment to be as accessible as possible.  This philosophy was inspired by the Community Acupuncture movement.

How should I decide how much to pay?

This is a personal decision.  Please keep in mind that $80 is the typical price of an acupuncture treatment in the Ann Arbor area, and that the purpose of the sliding scale is to make acupuncture accessible to people who would otherwise be excluded.  Some people choose to pay less per treatment in the beginning, when treatments are more frequent, and more later on, when treatments are less frequent.  Others may choose to vary payment based on fluctuating economic circumstances.  Ultimately, the patient is the one who is most familiar with their own situation, and the decision is theirs.

Does the treatment change based on the payment?

No.  Everyone receives the same quality of care, and for the same amount of time.  We love acupuncture, and love how it is a simple, effective, and environmentally-friendly way to improve people's health and quality of life.  It makes us happy to provide this service to the community, and we want as many people to have the chance to experience the benefits of acupuncture as possible.

What forms of payment are accepted?

Please pay by cash or personal check.

Is any proof of income required?

No. We realize that life is complex, and many factors go into an assessment of how much a patient is able to pay for an acupuncture treatment.  As stated above, this decision is solely the responsibility of the patient.
